Disciple. Shepherd. What does it all mean?
(A layman’s view)
Melody Tregear

The dictionary describes a disciple as being: ‘one who professes to receive instruction from another’ and also as, ‘one who follows.’ A shepherd on the other hand, is described as: ‘one who guides, watches over and protects the interest of another.’

But what does God say? Imagine for a moment that you’re sitting reading a ‘heavenly’ newspaper. You turn to the job section, desperate for employment. There are only two jobs available; each willing to take as many people as would accept the terms. This is how it reads:

WANTED: DISCIPLES

“Vacancies exist for people who are willing to give up their rights in favor of their Employer. You must be willing to totally renounce everything that takes your attention away from your Employer and what said Employer wants you to do. Successful candidates will be required to leave behind everything that captured their heart thus far in favor of their new Employer. Employer demands that all prospective employees be people who are willing to serve, no matter how menial the task. Applicants who are successful will be required to love all their colleagues as they love themselves. Total, unswerving trust in your Employer is essential, as is the ability to take instructions. Employer will only accept that you love Him if you obey Him. Last, but not least: Successful candidates are required to be productive in recruiting new staff.”

REMUNERATION
Employer will adopt you as His child. Upon your death, you will receive a glorious inheritance. However, those who are willing may start unpacking their inheritance while on earth. Employer will always supply all your needs. He promises that His love for you is unconditional and everlasting. You will also be allowed to dwell with Him in the city that has streets of gold, forever.

Please reply as soon as possible. Contact person: JESUS CHRIST

‘Perhaps,’ you think, ‘the next one will be better.’ So you read on.

WANTED: SHEPHERDS

“Vacancies exist for people already qualified as disciples, as successful candidates will need to work very closely with the Chief Shepherd. All those wishing to become shepherds must be able to accept being mocked, insulted and misunderstood, primarily by those outside the company, but not exclusively so. The post requires people who have learnt how to collect food from the Chief Shepherd and distribute it to the sheep. It is therefore imperative that you have sound references to prove previous experience in servantship. Successful applicants will be required to be diligent in keeping watch over the sheep. However, should sheep still manage to wander off, the shepherd will be required to go after said sheep after sitting at the Chief Shepherds feet about the matter. This will require that all prospective shepherds have a love for sheep. (What you have will be added to as you sit at the Chief Shepherds feet on behalf of the sheep.) Lastly, successful candidates will be required to lay down their life – literally if need be.”

REMUNERATION
In addition to what you receive for being a disciple, you will be made to ‘shine like the brightness of the heavens’. You will be put in charge of many things and given a crown of glory.

Due to shortage of staff, above post needs to be filled urgently.

Contact person: Chief Shepherd.

‘What’s this?’ you think, as you see more writing, hoping, maybe…

(All job requirements have legally been taken from our NIV version of the Government Gazette. The following references can be checked if anyone thinks that these requirements are exaggerated:

Isa.40:11, Dan.12:3, Matth.9:36, 12:11, 25:23, Lk.6:35, John 2:1, 8:31, 10:11, 13:5,35, 15:8, 21:15-17, Acts 20:28, 1 Peter 5:2-3

“Hmm,” you mutter, “I like the remuneration package, but…”

And therein lies the crux of the matter. ‘BUT’. Is it really too hard? Has the lover of our souls not promised to help us, strengthen us? The choice is yours my friend. You can rush to see Jesus now; He’s waiting for you. Or, you can choose to ignore what you’ve read here today.

THE CHOICE - IS YOURS….

My thanks to all have supported and continue to support me by helping me spread the word of 'What does JESUS say about...'  Please continue to help me spread the word by going to my FB page and clicking on the LIKE button. Here is the link: https://www.facebook.com/SomeGoodNews?ref=hl  Thank you.
Here is a quick reminder of what my book is about:
""What does JESUS say about..." is primarily a guide for parents and for those ministering to children, though adults will benefit from its message as well. The book deals with various, relevant issues, using the Ten Commandments as a basis to establish what God has to say about these things. It has a New Covenant perspective that is both insightful and helpful for everyday life. It deals with issues like ancestral worship, sex, rest, why we should honour our parents, etc."

Earlier this year, our beautiful country, South Africa, was dedicated to the ancestors by those in authority. We can all see what's happening in South Africa. The violence, murders, rape, robberies, strikes, etc. seem to have spiralled out of control. The first chapter of my book, 'What does JESUS say about...', deals with the topic of ancestral worship. I would encourage parents, children's ministers, adults and Pastors to buy this book and learn more about What God has to say about this...
Although it is a teacher's guide with lessons for children, the information is just as relevant for the rest of us. Even if ancestral worship is not something you consider to be a problem where you are, the information is pertinent anywhere physic consultations, speaking to the dead, consulting mediums, etc. is practiced.
Currently my book is available either directly from 'some GoodNews Publications' or here: https://www.createspace.com/4038967

NEW RELEASE!

My new book is available through 'some GoodNews Publications'. If you would like to purchase a copy, please email me for details.
For anyone outside of South Africa... it will be available on Amazon soon. Watch this space!
So, what is it about?
What does JESUS say about..." is primarily a guide for parents and for those ministering to children, though adults will benefit from its message as well. The book deals with various, relevant issues, using the Ten Commandments as a basis to establish what God has to say about these things. It has a New Covenant perspective that is both insightful and helpful for everyday life.
Some may feel that this book is 'culture specific' because it addresses some issues that may seem to be more prevalent in the black community, particularly in Africa. However, the Biblical truths throughout the book are relevant to all of us, regardless of culture, race or nationality.
My prayer is that all those exposed to it's message would come away, not only with a better understanding of God's views on these things, but with a deep desire to live each day asking, "What would Jesus do in this situation?"

The celebration of a struggle

Interesting Article On News 24 - So we continue to 'Struggle'

06 January 2012, 14:13

"I live in Bloemfontein and as most people know by now our city is hosting the celebrations of the ANC centenary.  Some positives of this celebration is the fixing of potholes in the streets (at last), the replacement of worn out South African flags at the city entrances and the re-painting of faded road signs on the road.

But most of all one notices the hundreds of banners and posters on every lamppost just to make sure everyone knows that the ANC is 100 years old.  One of these posters that caught my eye was the one that says:   Celebrating 100 years of selfless struggle.

This made me realize that that is exactly the problem with the ANC.  It has been struggling for 100 years.  At first the struggle was against apartheid, but since 1994 they are struggling to govern.  They struggle to find honest leaders.  Many senior ANC officials have been or are currently being prosecuted.  They even struggle to find an honest chief of police, failing twice!  They struggle to improve education.

Even though they are spending a larger percentage of the budget on education than most countries, education in the so-called township schools went from bad to worst and South Africa is now worse off than in the latter years of apartheid.  They struggle to provide proper health care.  Hospitals that were once some of the best in Africa (and even the world) are now mismanaged and in a disastrous condition.

Perhaps where they are struggling the most is Local Government and service delivery.  Towns that were once beautiful, clean, well run municipalities are now in a terrible state with most sewerage treatment plants discharging raw sewerage into what were once pristine rivers. Corruption, self-interest and greed have unfortunately ensured that the struggle continued since 1994.

I sincerely hope that the 100th year of struggle is the last one.  I hope that President Zuma will announce that 2012 will now be the first year of achievement and striving for excellence!  Let's all hope that the ANC will now put skill, knowledge, experience and innovation on the top of their requirements list when new leaders are chosen.  Please stop struggling and start performing!"

Till next time...

Jesus loves me...

While watching a  little TV on Sunday instead of going  to church, I watched a church in Atlanta honoring one of its senior  pastors who had been retired many years. He was 92 at that time and I  wondered why the church even bothered to ask the old gentleman to  preach at that age.  After a warm welcome, introduction of this  speaker, and as the applause quieted down, he rose from his high back  chair and walked slowly, with great effort and a sliding gait to the  podium. Without a note or written paper of any kind he placed both  hands on the pulpit to steady himself and then quietly and slowly he  began to speak...

"When I was asked to come here today and  talk to you, your pastor asked me to tell you what was the greatest  lesson ever learned in my 50-odd years of preaching. I thought about  it for a few days and boiled it down to just one thing that made the  most difference in my life and sustained me through all my trials..  The one thing that I could always rely on when tears and heartbreak  and pain and fear and sorrow paralyzed me...
the only thing that  would comfort was this verse...
"Jesus loves me this I know.
For the Bible tells me so.
Little ones to Him belong,
We are weak but He is strong...
Yes, Jesus loves me...
.The Bible tells me so."

The old pastor stated, "I  always noticed that it was the adults who chose the children's hymn  'Jesus Loves Me' (for the children of course) during a hymn sing, and it was the adults who sang the loudest because I could see they knew it the best."

"Here for you now is a Senior version of Jesus Loves Me":

JESUS LOVES ME

Jesus loves me, this I know,
Though my hair is white as snow
Though my sight is growing dim,
Still He bids me trust in Him.
(CHORUS)
YES, JESUS LOVES  ME.. YES, JESUS LOVES ME..
YES, JESUS LOVES ME, FOR THE BIBLE TELLS ME SO.

Though my steps are oh, so slow,
With my hand in His I'll go
On through life, let come what may,
He'll be there to lead the way.
(CHORUS)

When the nights are dark and  long,
In my heart He puts a song..
Telling me in words so clear,
"Have no fear, for I am near."
(CHORUS)

When my  work on earth is done,
And life's victories have been won.
He  will take me home above,
Then I'll understand His love.
(CHORUS)

I love Jesus, does He know?
Have I ever told Him so?
Jesus loves to hear me say,
That I love Him every day.
(CHORUS)

Till next time...
